Texture is used to create more interest in the work of art.

Texture may be seen AND felt depending on what surface is used to support the        painting. Rough paper produces a palpable rough texture, for instance.

Visual texture may be created by many methods. We can use stippled dots, cross hatched lines, spattering, stamping and/or scraping to create areas of interesting texture. Texture can be easily overdone and that will create more confusion than interest.

We do not want to confuse the viewer but entertain the viewer.
